About Brenda Parkes

Brenda Parkes knows she has the best job in the world - a lifetime working with children, teachers and books.

The best selling author of shared reading books including the classroom classics Goodnight, Goodnight, The Enormous Watermelon and Who's in the Shed, Brenda's passion for literacy teaching has taken her into classrooms around the world.

In 1986 the early childhood and literacy teacher put pen to paper, drawing on her vivid childhood memories of farm pets and their curiosity when anything new entered their world.

Who's in the Shed was an instant best seller and remains so to this day.

Brenda grew up on a farm with a diverse cast of animal characters. The old gray mare she learned to ride on appeared in Who's in the Shed along with other childhood pets. Her mischievous, but diabolical pet billy goat starred in No Goat Zone.

Brenda's love of books came from both parents. By the time she went to school at seven years of age, she was a voracious reader.

Today, Brenda's child award-winning shared reading books are published around the world including English versions in South Korea. Brenda has also written many guided reading books and is the author of the award winning Discovery Links.

Brenda travels and writes from her home based in South East Queensland, Australia, where she lives with her husband David and their Shetland sheepdogs, Max and Lady.
