Welcome to Brenda Parkes Website

For the last 20 years I’ve combined writing from my home in Australia, presenting at literacy conferences around the world and on-site literacy consultancy. Thank you to the hundreds of educators and children who have welcomed me into their lives and shared their learning journeys with me during that time. As I will not be travelling as frequently I’m hoping this web page will bridge the gap and allow us to continue to communicate.

The Book Talk section of the web page is designed as a sharing place for your teaching ideas and children’s writing. I’ve started it off for you with a wonderful innovation on Who’s in the Shed? and a rich web link to one teachers planning for The Enormous Watermelon.

Many of you have these two books among your shared book collections and I’ve delighted in hearing them read in your classrooms. These were the first two books I wrote and I’m excited to tell you they have just been republished by Benchmark Education in their Classic collection. Benchmark have also re illustrated six of my traditional tale retellings in that collection.
